Help my unbelief!. These words addressed to Jesus in Mark 9:24 come forth as a plaintive cry to which many of us could relate. A profession of faith in Jesus involves dealing with a whole array of counter intuitive items which challenge anyone to truly embrace. Love your enemies. Turn the other cheek. It is more blessed to give. The servant is the greatest of all. Live by the sword and die by the sword. Blessed are the meek. Love says it all. Wherever we turn in the Gospels, Jesus is saying something that our human mind cannot accept. It all seems too pie-in-the-sky, too dangerous and impractical.
Yet I go right on claiming to believe in Jesus, despite my obvious unbelief. Like the distraught father above, I need some divine help.
