I believe most evangelical Christians realize that the church version of the Gospel has no chance of converting most people. That conclusion is prompted in part by the church's understanding that the Bible predicts rejection by the vast majority. In addition, I suspect most church people recognize that because of great cultural differences, many people in the world are predisposed to another religion and would have great difficulty accepting a new belief system. Finally, the church's version of the Gospel is really a horrendous story about a capricious god and a vague mechanism to escape his wrath, not the kind of news anyone relishes sharing. Plagued by all these negative aspects, there is absolutely no wonder that most Christians refuse to engage in evangelism with any enthusiasm.
