I believe the information in this article can be helpful for sharing preterism with our futurist friends and showing them that the Bible uses figurative language in the Old Testament that helps us understand the New Testament. You may not agree with everything listed but my prayer is that this information will help you with your studies and sharing of the fulfilled view.
The fulfillment and/or explanation verse(s) follow each Olivet Discourse verse and I have included some of my comments throughout. Notice how Jesus uses the person pronoun "you" throughout (even after verse 35) and notice who His original audience was. What would you be thinking if you were there? All these signs were fulfilled during the time leading up to the destruction of
Matthew 24:1Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple.
Mark 13:1Then as He went out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, "Teacher, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!"
Luke 21:5Then, as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and donations, He said,
2And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
2And Jesus answered and said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
6"These things which you see-the days will come in which not one stone shall be left upon another that shall not be thrown down."
Some argue that not every stone of the temple was thrown down in 70AD because the western wall is still standing. This wall is actually a part of the Roman Fort Antonia and Herod’s temple was not on this site. For more information on this please read “The Temples That Jerusalem Forgot” by Ernest L. Martin.
Daniel 12:7 I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, as he raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time; and as soon as they finish shattering the power of the holy people, all these events will be completed.

3Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately, 4"Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?"
7So they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?"
Notice that they are asking about the end of the (Old Covenant Jewish) age, not the end of the world. Jesus’ answer to when will these things be is in Matt 24:34, "this generation". The sign of His coming was mainly the destruction of

Acts 5:36 "For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, joined him. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing. 37"After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all who obeyed him were dispersed.
Acts 8:9 But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great, 10to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is the great power of God." 11And they heeded him because he had astonished them with his sorceries for a long time.
Wars 2:13:5 But there was an Egyptian false prophet that did the Jews more mischief than the former; for he was a cheat, and pretended to be a prophet also, and got together thirty thousand that were deluded by him; these he led round about from the wilderness to the mount which was called the Mount of Olives, and was ready to break into Jerusalem by force from that place; and if he could but once conquer the Roman garrison and the people, he intended to domineer over them by the assistance of those guards of his that were to break into the city with him, but Felix prevented his attempt, and met him with his Roman soldiers, while all the people assisted him in his attack upon them, insomuch that, when it came to a battle, the Egyptian ran away, with a few others, while the greatest part of those that were with him were either destroyed or taken alive; but the rest of the multitude were dispersed every one to their own homes and there concealed themselves.

The Pax Romana, which means the Roman Peace, began with Augustus's establishment of the "Age of Peace" in 17BC. This time known as the Roman Peace made wars a sign because this peace remained comparatively undisturbed until the days of Lucius Domitius (Domitian is his legal name) Ahenobarbus, also known as Caesar Nero (37-68AD). Gentry writes on page 48 "Nero engages the Jewish War that results in the destruction of the

Acts 11:28 Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar.
Acts 16:26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were loosed.
Ant 20:2:5 Now Helena's coming was of very great advantage to the people of Jerusalem; for whereas a famine did oppress them at the time, and many people died for want of what was necessary to procure food withal...
Wars 5:10:2 for there was no corn which anywhere appeared publicly, but the robbers came running into, and searched men's private houses.... Many there were indeed who sold what they had for one measure; it was of what, if they were of the richer sort, but of barley, if they were poorer. When these had so done, they shut themselves up in the inmost rooms of their houses, and ate the corn they had gotten; some did it without grinding it; by reason of the extremity of the want they were in....a table was nowhere laid for a distinct meal, but they snatched the bread out of the fire, half-baked, and ate it very hastily.
Wars 5:10:3 It was now a miserable case, and a sight that would justly bring tears into our eyes, how men stood as to their food, while the more powerful had more than enough, and the weaker were lamenting for want of it. But the famine was too hard for all other passions, and it is destructive to nothing so much as to modesty...insomuch that children pulled the very morsels that their fathers were eating out of their very mouths...and so did the mothers do as to their infants...and as the most dear were perishing, they were not ashamed to take from them the very last drops that might preserve their lives...the old men, who held their food fast, were beaten; and if the women hid what they had within their hands, their hair was torn for so doing....In the dearth men cut open the bellies of neighbors, and mothers even ate their own children.

Acts 12:1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church. 2Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword. 3And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to seize Peter also. Until the believers during the transition period (30-70AD) entered the New Covenant promised land rest in 70AD (Heb 3:14; Heb 4:10,11) they, similar to the Israelites who wandered in the desert for 40 years, were able to fall away if they didn’t abide in Christ (Heb 3:12-4:11; Heb 6:4-6; Heb 10:23-29, 37-39; 2 Pt 2:20,21; Jn 15; Rom 11:19; 2 Jn 9; Col 1:23; etc…) and were cut off of the New Covenant [Luke 12:46 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers ](Also see Hebrews 10:29) and their OC identity would be burned (Heb 6:8) in 70AD resulting in their salvation (1 Cor 3:15; 1 Cor 5:5). The following verses show that salvation was completely received in 70AD when sin lost it’s power (1 Cor 15:55).
Luke 21:28 "But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."
Romans 8:23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.
Hebrews 9:28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
Romans 13:11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.

14"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
10"And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.
The word "world" in this verse is in Greek oikoumene, it is Strong's number 3625. The word "world" in John 3:16 is Strong's number 2889. Here are the listings of the word "world" in Strong's dictionary. 776
I own an Interlinear Greek-English New Testament and it includes a word-for-word translation of the Greek Textus Receptus with Strong's numbers. In it this verse reads like this: "And will be proclaimed this gospel of the kingdom in all the inhabited earth for a testimony to all the nations, and then will come the end." Notice also that Jesus said that once this was fulfilled the end would then come; He did not say it would come almost 2000 years later. Some of the following verses show the fulfillment and some show how the word "world" is sometimes used during this time period.
Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. (Did Caesar have people from every country on the planet get registered?)
Acts 2:5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.
Romans 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
Romans 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" 17So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: "Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world."
Romans 16:25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began 26but now has been made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures has been made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith

20"But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near.
An abomination in the Old Testament was related to the desecrating of worship, either by outright false worship (Deut 7:25; 27:15) or by a profanation of true worship (Lev 7:18; Deut 17:1). The abomination of desolation is a Hebrew term, and this is expected because Matthew's audience was Jewish. Writing to the Gentiles, Luke explains that it refers to when the (Roman) armies surround
Daniel 12:9 He said, "Go your way, Daniel, for these words are concealed and sealed up until the end time.

Wars 5:1:2-3 "the Temple was defiled everywhere with murders...the Zealots went over all the buildings, and the Temple itself, and fell upon the priests, and those that were about the sacred offices"
Wars 5:12:1-3 "And now did Titus consult with his commanders what was to be done. Those that were of the warmest tempers, thought he should bring the whole army against the city and storm the wall; for that hitherto no more than a part of their army had fought with the Jews; but that in case the entire army was to come at once.... that therefore his opinion was, that if they aimed at quickness joined with security, they must build a wall round about the whole city; which was, he thought, the only way to prevent the Jews from coming out any way, and that then they would either entirely despair of saving the city, and so would surrender it up to him, or be still the more easily conquered when the famine had farther weakened them....these arguments prevailed with the commanders....while Caesar himself took notice of and rewarded the like contention in those commanders; for he went round about the works many times every day, and took a view of what was done....so all hope of escaping was now cut off from the Jews, together with the liberty of going out of the city.

The following verse in Jeremiah is talking about a different judgment of God in the Old Testament that was against
Jeremiah 8:33 "The corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the heaven and for the beasts of the earth. And no one will frighten them away." Josephus has another possible interpretation. Wars 3:6:2 "Then came the ensigns encompassing the eagle, which is at the head of every Roman legion, the king, and the strongest of all birds, which seems to them a signal of dominion, and an omen that they shall conquer all against whom they march; these sacred ensigns are followed by the trumpeters."
Rev 19:21 And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
29"Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
24"But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25"the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
25"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26"men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken.
The Bible uses many types of language including figurative, literal, and poetic. For example, no one believes Jesus was a literal door. The futurist commentaries I've looked at interpret this type of language in the Old Testament in a non-literal way in that it refers to judgment by God against a group of people or nation. Why don't they do that in the Olivet Discourse? If they interpreted this type of language in the Old Testament like they do in the New Testament we would literally have mountains melting with blood, hills moving back and forth, the host of heaven being dissolved, the heavens rolled up, etc. during the Old Testament times and these things did not happen in that way.
Isaiah 13:1 The burden against
Isaiah 34:3 Also their slain shall be thrown out; their stench shall rise from their corpses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. 4All the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll; all their host shall fall down as the leaf falls from the vine, And as fruit falling from a fig tree.5"For My sword (compare with Rev 19:15) shall be bathed in heaven; indeed it shall come down on Edom, And on the people of My curse, for judgment. 6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, It is sated with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, With the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah And a great slaughter in the
Jeremiah 4:5 Declare in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem.... 4:23 I beheld the earth, and indeed it was without form, and void; and the heavens, they had no light.24I beheld the mountains, and indeed they trembled, and all the hills moved back and forth.25I beheld, and indeed there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens had fled.26I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of the Lord, By His fierce anger.27For thus says the Lord: "The whole land shall be desolate; yet I will not make a full end.28For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black, because I have spoken. I have purposed and will not relent, nor will I turn back from it.29The whole city shall flee from the noise of the horsemen and bowmen. They shall go into thickets and climb up on the rocks. Every city shall be forsaken, and not a man shall dwell in it.
Ezekiel 32:2 "Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him: 'You are like a young lion among the nations, And you are like a monster in the seas, Bursting forth in your rivers, Troubling the waters with your feet, And fouling their rivers.'3"Thus says the Lord God: 'I will therefore spread My net over you with a company of many people, and they will draw you up in My net. 4Then I will leave you on the land; I will cast you out on the open fields, and cause to settle on you all the birds of the heavens. And with you I will fill the beasts of the whole earth. 5I will lay your flesh on the mountains, and fill the valleys with your carcass.6'I will also water the land with the flow of your blood, even to the mountains; and the riverbeds will be full of you. 7When I put out your light, I will cover the heavens, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.8All the bright lights of the heavens I will make dark over you, and bring darkness upon your land,' Says the Lord God.
Isaiah 30:26 Moreover the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, And the light of the sun will be sevenfold, As the light of seven days, In the day that the Lord binds up the bruise of His people And heals the stroke of their wound. (This language is also used in the opposite way when God is blessing a nation.)
Amos 8:2 And He said, "Amos, what do you see?" So I said, "A basket of summer fruit." Then the Lord said to me: "The end has come upon My people Israel; I will not pass by them anymore.... 8:9 "And it shall come to pass in that day," says the Lord God, "That I will make the sun go down at noon, And I will darken the earth in broad daylight; 10 I will turn your feasts into mourning, And all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth on every waist, And baldness on every head; I will make it like mourning for an only son, And its end like a bitter day.
Micah 1:1 The word of the Lord that came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.2Hear, all you peoples! Listen, O earth, and all that is in it! Let the Lord God be a witness against you, The Lord from His holy temple.3For behold, the Lord is coming out of His place; He will come down and tread on the high places of the earth.4The mountains will melt under Him, and the valleys will split like wax before the fire, like waters poured down a steep place.5All this is for the transgression of Jacob and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not
Joel 2:10 The earth quakes before them; the heavens tremble. The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining. 11 The Lord utters his voice before his army, for his camp is exceedingly great; he who executes his word is powerful. For the day of the Lord is great and very awesome; who can endure it?
Isa 51:4-6 4 "Pay attention to Me, O My people, And give ear to Me, O My nation; For a law will go forth from Me, And I will set My justice for a light of the peoples. 5 "My righteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth, And My arms will judge the peoples; The coastlands will wait for Me, And for My arm they will wait expectantly. 6 "Lift up your eyes to the sky, Then look to the earth beneath; For the sky will vanish like smoke, And the earth will wear out like a garment And its inhabitants will die in like manner; But My salvation will be forever, And My righteousness will not wane.
Rev 6:12 I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. 13And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. 14Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. 15And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17"For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"
(If this is literal we have a problem. After all the stars of heaven crash on the earth how could anyone still be alive, and how could there still be caves, mountains, and rocks to hide with?)
30"Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
26"Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
27"Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Most of these verses are from the Old Testament. By reading them you'll understand why the Jews knew what Jesus was talking about.
John 5:19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. 20"For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.21"For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.22"For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son

Micah 1:3 For behold, the Lord is coming out of his place, and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth. 4 And the mountains will melt under him, and the valleys will split open, like wax before the fire, like waters poured down a steep place. 5 All this is for the transgression of Jacob and for the sins of the house of
Psalm 104:3 He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters;
he makes the clouds his chariot;
he rides on the wings of the wind;
4 he makes his messengers winds,
his ministers a flaming fire.
Psalm 68:4 Sing to God, sing praise to his name,
extol him who rides on the clouds
his name is the LORD
and rejoice before him.
Matthew 26:63 But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." 64 Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven." 65 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need?
Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, "I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven." (Compare with Matt 19:28 Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.)
Rev 1:7 Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
Acts 1:9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."
31"And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
27"And then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.
28"Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
This is when the living and dead believers completed their spiritual transfer from the Old Covenant world (1 Jn 2:17; 1 Cor 7:31; Rom 7:24; etc) to the world above in the air (New Covenant; New Jerusalem; Gal 4:24-31) that Christ prepared for them (Jn 14:2). This world came to the earth in 70AD (Revelation 21:2) after the Old Covenant world passed away (Rev 21:1).
John 8: 23 And He was saying to them, "You are from below, I am from above; you are of this (OC) world, I am not of this (OC) world.

28"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
29Then He spoke to them a parable: "Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near.
Hal Lindsey and some other futurists believe the fig tree in this verse is talking about
33"So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near-at the doors!
29"So you also, when you see these things happening, know that it is near-at the doors!

30"Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.
32"Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place.
Notice Jesus didn't say "that generation". It always refers to the generation (Greek: genea) of Jews that Jesus was speaking to. It also doesn't mean race, and that wouldn't make sense with the dispensationalist view anyway because they don't believe the Jewish race will pass away.
Luke 17:25 But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
Matt 11:16 "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their playmates, 17 "'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds."
Matt 12:38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, "Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you." 39 But he answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of
Matt 16:4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah." So he left them and departed.
Matt 17:17 And Jesus answered, "O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me."
Matthew 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.
Mark 8:12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation."
Mark 8:38 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
Mark 9:19 And he answered them, "O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me."
Luke 7:31 "To what then shall I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, "'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.' 33 For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'
Luke 9:41 Jesus answered, "O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here."
Luke 11:29 When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, "This generation is an evil generation. It seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as Jonah became a sign to the people of
Luke 11:49 Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,' 50 so that the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation, 51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.
Acts 2:40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation."
Acts 8:32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: "Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth. 33 In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth."

The Old Covenant world passed away in 70AD but the Lord’s words never will.
Hebrews 8:13 When He said, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.
2 Cor 3: 9 For if the ministry of condemnation has glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness abound in glory. 10 For indeed what had glory, in this case has no glory because of the glory that surpasses it. 11 For if that which fades away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory.
Isaiah 51: 16 "I have put My words (law) in your mouth and have covered you with the shadow of My hand, TO ESTABLISH THE HEAVENS, TO FOUND THE EARTH, and to say to Zion, `You are My people.' "

1 John 2:17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
We see the OC’s destruction with its elements in 2 Peter 3. Futurists don’t know where to put the Day of the Lord. In 1 Thess 5:2, Paul correcting those who believed it may have already come, says it will come like a thief in the night. They teach that this means that Christ could return any day now like a thief and we need to be ready. After this return they teach that the 1000-year reign will take place on earth and after that earthly reign the earth will be destroyed by fire. But 2 Peter 3:10 says the Day of the Lord will come “like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up”. They teach that this is a literal destruction of the physical earth and that it occurs after the 1000 years. They can’t have it both ways!
2 Pt 3: 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the ELEMENTS will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
Galatians 4:3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.
Galatians 4:9 But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how [is it that] you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?
Coloss 2:20 If ye have died with Christ from the elements of the world, why as [if] alive in [the] world do ye subject yourselves to ordinances?
36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
32 "But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
While Christ and the people who listened to Him knew the Old Covenant would pass away during their generation only God the Father knew the day and hour.
Mark 13: 33 "Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come. 34 "It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert. 35 "Therefore, be on the alert--for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning-- 36 in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 "What I say to you I say to all, `Be on the alert!' "
Luke 21:34 "Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap; 35 for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the earth. 36 "But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." 37 Now during the day He was teaching in the temple, but at evening He would go out and spend the night on the mount that is called Olivet. 38 And all the people would get up early in the morning to come to Him in the temple to listen to Him.
Christ warns the first century believers to keep watch. Notice that even though the man (Christ) went away on a journey He returned during the lifetimes of the slaves.
Matthew 24: 37 "For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. (LUKE 17:26,27) 38 "For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 "Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken (to judgment) and one will be left. (LUKE 17:36) 41 "Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken (to judgment) and one will be left. 42 "Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 "But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44 "For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will. 45 "Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 "Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. 47 "Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 "But if that evil slave says in his heart, `My master is not coming for a long time,' 49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards; 50 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know, 51 and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Luke 17:26 (The following is after Mt 24:35) "And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 "It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building; 29 but on the day that Lot went out from
Many partial preterists teach that the verses after Matthew 24:34 occur in the future while the verses prior to that in chapter 24 occurred by 70AD. But by comparing this latter section of Matthew 24 with Luke 17 proves that the discourse cannot be divided. Also notice that Jesus continues to use the personal pronoun “you” after verse 35.
