It is little wonder that people attached to the prevalent Christian end times story are so ready to embrace all manner of horrendous predictions of impending gloom and doom in the form of conspiracy theories. Gloom and doom are the very essence of many versions of the church’s story about the end of human history. That story is marked by supernatural demons operating in union with powerful human forces to fulfill ruinous and diabolic schemes. This very common interpretation of the Bible contains all the fanciful elements which invariably show up in our current day infatuation with conspiracy theories.
While many marvel at how otherwise reasonable people can believe such stories, a great number simultaneously accept something equally fantastic from the church. If we want to question, why not question traditional Christianity?
