As long as man's sorry spiritual state is God's doing, then His plan for undoing cannot be called grace, mercy, and forgiveness. It's more like restitution for what God allowed to happen in the first place. Inventing some divine adversary like the Devil does nothing to absolve God from ultimate responsibility unless we accept that the Devil is the equal of God, despite being supposedly created by God. Either God is all powerful and all noble, or we have the story wrong. Which is it?
