In telling the "Good News" the church story usually begins with the revelation that the hearers are really bad and destined to get a lot worse. Later, some goodness has to be injected, so we learn of God's plan to overlook our badness if we comply with certain requirements. If the good news/ bad news story is told in its entirety, another bad element must be added- eternal torment. So basically the so called Good News consists of a little ray of hope sprinkled in between two pieces of really bad news. And for some reason church folks get upset when their neighbors reject this story. Who's really crazy here-, the believers or the skeptics?
